- INSTRUCTIONS FOR JOUR10.WK1
-
- Because the Single Business Journal Template JOUR1.WK1 is easier
- and faster to use, it is recommended that you start with that
- template. The manual JOUR1.DOC gives detailed instructions on the
- operation of the single journal template. Registered users will
- receive the manual in printed form.
-
- However, if you operate several businesses from one checking
- account, the Multiple Business Journal Template JOUR10.WK1 is the
- appropriate template to use. For example, you may wish to keep the
- income and expenses for various rental properties separate while
- having only one checking account.
-
- The I'M NO ACCOUNTANT template JOUR10.WK1 allows you to operate up
- to 10 different businesses from one checking account. This is done
- by introducing a new classification, the BUSINESS NUMBER, which can
- have values from 0 through 9.
-
- The BUSINESS NUMBER appears in the journal, ledgers, and on the
- printouts. It is requested on data entry screens, and included in
- the help screens.
-
- Before using template JOUR10.WK1, first issue the command JOURNAL
- CLEAR to set up the overall business name, starting date, and
- initial checking balance. This is the same way that JOUR1.WK1 is
- started.
-
- Then, for each business, issue the JOURNAL MODIFY BUSINESS command
- to associate a business number with a business name. Keep a list
- of these numbers handy so that you can enter them on the Payment,
- Deposit, and Salary screens.
-
- If you give a BUSINESS NUMBER on the EXTRACT INPUT screen, only
- journal entries for the specified business will be extracted.
- Otherwise, all business numbers will be selected.
-
- If you examine where the information is stored in the spreadsheet,
- you will notice that the ledgers require many more columns in
- template JOUR10.WK1. When the journal is balanced, and
- transactions are transferred to the ledgers, there is much more
- work to do. This also takes more time, making JOUR10 slower than
- JOUR1.
-
- Unless you need to operate multiple businesses out of one checking
- account, it is faster and easier to use JOUR1.WK1. If you need the
- advanced BUSINESS NUMBER feature, it will be to your advantage to
- use JOUR10.WK1.
